The End

As some of you might know, I am spending more and more time in Glasgow (thanks to my newly received freedom and a certain guy). Although I am inspired everyday to write entries on my blog, I have to admit that I am more reluctant to share my everyday life with everyone on the Internet (or should I say the 5-6 people who bother to check my blog on an average day...) than I used to be. Trying to have a private life and still blog about personal issues don't go very well with also trying to get a serious job, where just the mere thought of potential employers snooping around and finding a link between professional me and my blog, invokes nervous ticks. I therefore decided that I have blogged enough for now. My typing efforts will be transfered to job applications (why are they so hard to write?), academic articles and my novel. When I start my next job (which is shortly) I might start up a new but more 'professional' blog. But as in most fairytales this is a happy ending. I can say that I now have all the things that I wanted when I started this blog almost a year ago: I got my PhD and I got a wonderful guy. What else can one wish for?

Funny… I’ve always believed that the fairytale begins when the girl gets the guy ;o)

I know what you mean, and I understand your argument, and accept it because I know we’ll keep in close contact even if you’ve left the country (again!)…
Thank you for sharing your thoughts her until this point, its been a pleasure to read.

Good luck you lucky girl, sounds like you’re as happy has you deserve to be!

I completely understand the feeling -- I had a semi-public blog like this for a year in 2002-03, and while it was fascinating to keep track of my life, it was also time-consuming...and a little eerie to find that a lot more than 5-6 people were reading it regularly! Students I interviewed for jobs seemed to know more about me than I did, and guys who were interested in me seemed to use my blog to snoop on my private life...that's when I shut it down. (Gotta love logfile analyses!)

Even now, there are times when I want to "out" my current blog...and then I stop, because I'm not sure what the consequences may be.

Thanks, though, for sharing your life with us for the past year! And personally, it has been a pleasure getting to know you (although in person, first -- a much better way to go)

And hey, you can always take some archived posts (how to survive a PhD) for use in a bestselling career advice book :-)
