Time space – movement and communication across space – the geographical stretching-out of social relations
So what about our children and the fear of them playing outside? The freedom to move is restricted s they move through time and space not physically but visually on the internet or TV?
Different types of time and space – those that can do it out of choice - the jet set
Those that have no choice the refugee
The person in poverty who knows world soccer and samba
Those that eat fish and chips from the Chinese store
Chinese in America is different than Chinese in china

A few reflections? So what is this article about?
Mobility and control over mobility?
Boundaries keep the other out and us as commodity and contamination? Boundaries define and secure who were are – the illegal alien?
Do we really want to be unique?
Why does time/space = compession? What is being compressed?
Is it relative to the place that makes us define the notion of compression?
Is it about A uniqueness of place itself or locality constructed out of particular interactions and mutual articulations of social interactions, social processes, experiences and understandings constructed on a larger scale
gLobal sense of the local and a global sense of place = control? Does this present a sense of flattening – but perhaps it is not about the place but the character of the individuals and their individual or collective interaction within the place – but don’t the powers influence the way we interact delivering a sense of security?
I do believe there is a sense of homogenisation - there is a sense of fear of the other that breeds a boundary of sameness in space and place
Yes time creates a layering but why does that necessarily affect mobility and the control of mobility, which creates a crack for the possibility of the control of the person?
Why are we mapping - what are we really trying to describe and for what purpose ?

Keller mapping
So what is the difference between imperialism – the taking of land then military rule.
Colonialism – the use of a country for the purpose of appropriating its wealth and for promotion of the occupiers.
Contemporary – the setting up satellite stations, in different places, a space that facilitate appropriation of knowledge – knowledge is power – Foucault. Using the locals to provide global networks? If knowledge is power what will the power be used for?

If we look at Bruno Latour – he states that it is the justification and the construction of the proposed theory that empowers those who formulate the ideas and practices we need to create a structured society. If knowledge gathering is a foundation of power then are the “actants,” those that decide the importance of the knowledge and justify its uses the boundary constructors– so we look at the vacuum and the pump (Schafer) – the experiment did not really work it was the mechanics behind the experiment that defined the direction of science and technology and the political and academic systems. What is real knowledge – The powers of power of observation are an embedded from of knowledge gathering and implicit in power structures that create homogeneity, and the group and networked connections that create the assumed validation of the knowledge.
Is the hybrid really closing the gap of dualities and therefore the notion of binaries ? Are we really looking at new visions and interpretations?
